There lived two brothers in a village with their family. One was Ramesh and the other one was Suresh. Both lived peacefully in a small cottage with their family. They were farmers, they used to do farming to earn their livelihood.
Their father Mukesh had sixty bighas of land with them, so they used to do farming on that land. They used to grow wheat and rice for themselves, and they used to sell it to the market to earn profit.
Ramesh was the elder brother and Suresh was the younger brother, both were very close to each other. They used to share each and everything with each other. They were not only brothers, but they were like best friends.
At the time of the distribution of land, Mukesh gave more land to Ramesh and less to Suresh. Mukesh gave 40 bigha of land to Ramesh and 20 bigha of land to Suresh. He didn’t want to differentiate between his sons, but he had his explanation.
Ramesh was always the hardworking child of the family, he used to work hard each and everything that he wanted. He used to earn lots and lots of profit from his sales in the market.
On the other hand, Suresh was very lazy, he used to sleep like a log all the time in bed, he used to watch television all the time, and he used to not help his brother in the field. Instead, he used to tell him to do his work too. He never wanted to work hard for anything that he would get as a responsibility.
This was the reason why Mukesh gave less land to Suresh and more to Ramesh because he knew that Ramesh could handle anything. Suresh was irritated, he felt betrayed, and he thought about how Ramesh could get his part of the land.
Suresh started developing a hatred for Ramesh, he used to fight with him all the time over petty things. Suresh used to be angry at him all the time. Suresh became so blinded by his evil intentions that he started running the efforts that Ramesh used to put into farming.
Suresh used to ruin the fields of Ramesh by putting excessive fertilizers in the fields. He used to put them at night, he wanted to make his father feel that he was also worthy of 30 bigha land. Ramesh was confused that he had been working so hard in the field still his crops were still getting destroyed.
Mukesh realized that something was wrong with Suresh. So, he followed Suresh to the fields at night and he saw everything. He was shocked to see his behaviour of Suresh toward his brother.
Mukesh went to the fields, he explained everything to Suresh, he explained to him that he never worked hard, which is why Mukesh couldn’t give him the responsibility of the whole field. He told him that he never wanted a dispute between two friends, but he just wanted Suresh to realize his mistake and work hard enough to own up to the land.
Suresh cried, he realized his mistake and he apologized to his father and his brother. Both started working again peacefully and religiously.
Moral of the story: Jealousy is not the way to get success. Success is only achieved by those who work hard for it.
