Sourav Ganguly to Meet 12-Year-Old Fan Who Fled Home to See Him on His 52nd Birthday

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been moved by the actions of a 12-year-old boy, Adrish Haldar, who fled from his home in Bankura’s Kotulpur to meet his cricketing idol in Kolkata on his 52nd birthday. Ganguly, who is currently in London, expressed his desire to meet the young fan once he returns to Kolkata.

“I learnt about his little adventure. I am keen on meeting him,” Ganguly told the Times of India via his personal assistant on Wednesday, July 10.

According to a Times of India report, the class seven student traveled 115 km using his pocket money, which his parents had given him to attend a Rath Yatra fair in his hometown. The young boy’s dream was to meet Ganguly and convince his father to allow him to pursue cricket seriously.

“My Son is a Big Fan of Sourav Ganguly,” Says Adrish Haldar’s Father

Adrish Haldar’s father, Shibram Haldar, shared his relief and gratitude after being reunited with his son. “My son is a big fan of Sourav. Without informing us, he left home on Monday around noon. After searching for him extensively, we filed a missing person’s report at Kotulpur police station. I am grateful to the Behala police and the traffic guard for returning my son,” he told the Times of India.

The traffic guard who found Adrish played a crucial role in arranging the potential meeting with Ganguly. A senior official mentioned:

“We saw love for Ganguly in the child’s eyes and wanted to respect it. We clicked a clipping of the report that appeared in TOI and sent it to his office. His office reverted soon enough and stated they wanted to arrange a meeting with Ganguly and the child once the former cricketer returned home later this month.”

Interestingly, Sourav Ganguly retired from all forms of cricket in 2012, the same year Adrish was born. This meeting is expected to be a special moment for both the young fan and his cricketing hero, highlighting the enduring impact Ganguly has on his admirers.

Upcoming Meeting

Ganguly’s office has already contacted Adrish’s parents and requested his father to bring the boy to Kolkata during the last week of this month. This gesture from Ganguly underscores his connection with fans and the inspiration he continues to provide, even years after retiring from the sport.

Stay tuned to witness this heartwarming encounter between a cricket legend and his young devotee.
